Barbara Ann Thomas Harris

Barbara Ann Thomas Harris, 86, beloved wife of the late Wallace Henry Harris, Jr., peacefully passed away Friday, November 17, 2023.

Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Grayson Columbus and Dora Zell Johnson Thomas.

After being raised in Burlington, NC, she graduated from Williams High School, and then Barbara furthered her education receiving a bachelor’s degree from Elon University.

Years later while simultaneously working as an elementary school teacher, Barbara completed a master’s degree program in education. After more than thirty years of teaching, she retired from Greenville County Schools where she loved teaching first grade at Mitchell Road Elementary School.

Barbara was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization for women educators.

She leaves her son, Wallace Henry Harris, III and his wife, Jean, of Simpsonville; three grandchildren, Mrs. Katie Stanford and her husband Bill, Dr. Taylor Harris, and Mr. Graham Harris; three beloved nieces and a nephew.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Grayson Thomas Harris and sister, Billie Gray Lassiter.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with visitation immediately following the service.

Burial will be privately held in Graceland East Memorial Park, Simpsonville.
