Barbara Ponda Stone, 77, beloved wife of nearly 40 years to Craig Stone, passed away on Wednesday July 5, 2023.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Cora Lee Stewart.
Ponda grew up in the local area and graduated from Parker High School in 1964, where she made lifelong friendships and fond memories.
Ponda was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Daughter of the Kings, a vested organization that she held dear to her heart. Ponda served on the altar guild at her church, her dedication to her faith and her church community was evident in her unwavering commitment.
Ponda loved Elvis Presley, his music always brought joy to her life. She saw him 22 times in concert. She loved to dance, particularly enjoyed dancing the Shag. Photography was another of her passions, she enjoyed capturing precious moments and was often the one behind the camera, but seldom in the photographs, as her focus was always on the happiness of those around her.
An exceptional hostess, Ponda thoroughly enjoyed entertaining her friends and loved ones. Ponda’s warm and caring nature endeared her to everyone she met. Her loving and giving spirit made her a true friend to many, and her kind-heartedness knew no bounds. She had a genuine ability to make others feel welcome and loved. Ponda’s legacy of love and faith will continue on through her loved ones.
In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by sons, Russell L. Davis (Savannah) and C. Dustin Stone (Amanda);grandchildren, Tenleigh and McKenna Davis, Sarah and Noah Hughey, and Gabriel and Theo Stone; sister, Linda Harkins (Bill); sister-in-law, Polly Stewart; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Jesse Mae Jenkins (Jerry) and Bobbie Jo Dobson (Harry); brothers, Ray Stewart (Anita), Roy Stewart, and Jerome Stewart (Martha).
A visitation will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with the memorial service to follow at 4:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel.
