So very sorry to hear of Ben's passing. It was my honor to play corner to his safety. He was always there to cover up for my mistakes. He was told he was to small to slow to play and having to be a walk on to prove the true measure of a man, the size of his heart. He was a leader and the soul of our defensive back squad for the four we played together. Glory is fleeting but honor lives forever. I loved this man #25Jeff Siepe 42 go Tigers!

Joe, Greg, Jeff,So very sorry to learn of Ben's passing. I grew up in Lake City next door to your Aunt Johnsie. She took me to my first Clemson game and Ben was my first favorite tiger player as a child. My prayers are with your family.
I had the privilege of meeting Ben over the weekend he was inducted into Clemson's Athletic Hall of Fame. I attended Clemson a few years after Ben graduated, but I knew of him and his reputation. It was such an honor to spend a time with him. He gave an incredible acceptance speech the night he was inducted and I could tell after knowing him for just a few hours what a special person he was. He really made a huge impression on me. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Ben's family and friends. He'll be missed for sure, but never forgotten. Neil Simons, Class of 1980.
Joe, Greg and Jeff,All of the Robert L. McKie family send our deepest sympathy to each of you and your extended families. Your family friendship with the McKies has extended for generations and we all value the relationship and memories. Ben's love and contributions to Clemson will continue for years to come...our grandchildren are now enjoying the benefits. We'll always see the run down the Hill with new appreciation. May the God of all comfort prove His faithfulness to each of you. Joyce McKie Barinowski
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
Ben and all the Anderson boys ( Gregg , Joe, and Jeff ) were / are outstanding people as well as.their parents. They might not know it and I wish I had told him / them that they were all my role models whom I looked up to but I am telling the surviving brothers that now and have prayed to Jesus to tell Ben for me. We all get so caught up in raising our families and pursuing our careers we sometimes temporarily forget our roots. I remember when I was a boy over at the Anderson's I broke my arm when I fell from a tree and how they all rallied around me with such awesome care. I came from a large family so we were financially not that well off at that time but the Andersons took me in like their own and I got to do and enjoy things I probably would not have got to do. The point is the way they all carried themselves with integrity, ethics and care no doubt rubbed off on me and helped me to be the husband, father, and Poppy I am today at least I would hope other people and friends see that in me. This is such a shock to me and I grieve along with the family and all their friends and it reminds me to live my life to the fullest because we are all mortal. I have written a lot about me here but if you examine my words closely you will recognize how his life touched more people that he really knew. In closing I offer two things. #1 A bible verse from Ecclesiastes 3 that has always comforted me and #2 I am certain Ben is on the first team in heaven so ...GO TIGERS !!Joe N Brown and familyEcclesiastes 3 New International Version (NIV)A Time for Everything3 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,3 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,6 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,7 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,8 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

I was out of town and just read Ben's obituary in the paper. I saw him often at the Sportsclub - you'd never guess he had an illness. He was always very friendly and kind, particularly to me on the death of my husband, Roger. He and Roger would always get into conversations at the club, mostly about Clemson football! Rest in peace, Ben! You and Roger keep each other company.Peggy Clinkscales
From the age of 6 or 7, Ben was the ultimate Clemson fan - he became the ultimate Clemson man! I had the priviledge of attending my first Clemson game with Ben and his family about the time we were 7. I remember in Jr. High when he wrote the letter to Coach Howard, and he was so proud that he became a Clemson Tiger! We lost contact when he retired, but I am a better person and a Clemson fan becasue of Ben. Heaven just got a little more orange - fly high my friend!Jimmy Greene

I played tennis against Ben often. I always found him to be quietly competative. To me, Ben was an "old school" kind of guy that exhibited the type of grace under pressure than I envied. RIP

I grew up down the street from Ben and Joe his older brother and Greg his younger brother. We played baseball in their back yard just about every Saturday. His dad, Joe Sr. had a fenced backstop and tires dug in the ground for the bases. I also played football with both Ben and Joe at Strom Thurmond. I will treasure these memories forever. To all the family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Respectfully, James C Ray.

At STHS I was one year behind Ben. At that age he tried to mentor us. He was mature beyond his age. He will be remembered and missed.
In some of the darkest hours of Clemson athletics Ben was a beacon of light for the university he so deeply lovedHe did not sway to the pressures of those who harm the integrity of his university choosing instead to prove that no one person or group of persons were greater than the reputation of his alma mater , Clemson university. I am honored to have worked with Ben during those times and will never forget the late nights at sikes hall Rest in peace my friend and go tigersPaul aaron
Ben was "my first love" in 6th grade & I'll never forget his mother bringing him to my house on Valentine's Day with a box of chocolates almost bigger than he was! In my Clemson days Ben would walk into class the day after a big test with the next assignment already highlighted. While the rest of us cut up before class he reviewed his notes from the night before. He made an impression on others when he did not realize it.
Ben was one of the most gracious, caring, and humble people that we have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was one of a kind and a true gentlemen. He will be greatly missed by all. All our love and condolences to Kristy and his family, Gary & Phyllis Bible
Ben was one of my brother-in-law's (Bobby Johnson) closest friends.. I saw him at several football games that Bobby coached (Furman University & Vanderbilt University). He was a great friend and mentor. He was one of the nicest, polite & sweetest men I have ever known. I am glad he is resting peacefully.Elizabeth Colwell
I had the great honor of being Ben's teammate and friend. He was such an inspiration to us all at Clemson. Truly his roar was heard and helped shape the champions that have followed him. He was a true leader, a great sportsman and one of the finest people I ever had the pleasure to know. He will be missed by all of us.Chuck Gordon
I will always remember and cherish the friendship that developed during our years together at Clemson. From our freshman year as teammates on the freshman team through the next 3 years as teammates Ben was one of the true leaders of our football team and eventually Clemson University. I have vivid memories of our practices during our four years together where Ben was much more than the silent leader, he was a true inspiration to all of his teammates not only on the football field but also off the field. The last time I saw Ben I was on the Isle of Palms going to the beach with my family, and I kept looking at the people not too far from me. I told my wife, hey i know those guys. so I walked over and it was Ben and Bobby Johnson and their families. Bobby had retired from Vanderbilt and Ben was down visiting. So many years pass, but there is still this connection between people where it just seems like yesterday. That was the feeling I had that day. No finer person has ever represented Clemson University, Ben you will be missed by all. Buddy King
Ray and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to you all. Ben was such a special person, both on and off the tennis court. This is where we knew him best. He will be greatly missed by all his friends here at Riverside Tennis Club.Ray and Alison Frazier
