Betty Jane Owen, beloved wife, mother, minister and friend, died peacefully surrounded by family on September 19, 2021, in Greenville, SC.
Betty was born July 10, 1940, in Bristol, Virginia, to “Jack” and Aurelia Kilgore.
On September 26, 1959, she happily married Ken Owen, who was her partner in life and ministry for almost 62 years. Betty served alongside her husband as the Director of Music for more than 40 years until she retired in 2007. She was known for her deep love for people along with her creativity and holiday musical productions that presented the gospel message to thousands.
She is survived by her husband, three children, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. One of her greatest joys in life was to be “Nana” and spoil her grandchildren.
Besides spending time with her family, Betty had a love for the holidays, particularly Christmas, and was passionate about traveling, solving puzzles, playing Farkle and caring for her mischievous dog, Gus. Betty was known for her strong visionary leadership, compassion for people, and her love for music.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Greenville First located at 1105 Haywood Road, Greenville, SC. Visitation will take place at 10:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am.
