Betty Jean Griswold Swann, 87, of Simpsonville, beloved wife and mother, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday April 30, 2022, at 3:15 p.m. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Born in Asheville, NC on either March 11th or 12th, 1935 she was the daughter of Lynn D. and Willie Mae Griswold. At the age of two, due to hard times, Betty was given to an aunt and uncle, Thelma and Harry McNeil to raise her when her parents could not.
Betty worked for Sears and the Kroger credit unions. She was a volunteer at St Francis Women’s hospital and received the volunteer of the year award. Betty was also named the Silver Star at the Mauldin Senior Center where she enjoyed spending time in various activities. Betty was an avid reader and had a talent for decorating like no other. She took many trips including a trip to California with her daughters where she was able to meet Bob Barker on the The Price is Right.
She is survived by her loving husband, Lamar Swann, to whom she was married 64 years; her daughters, Tracy Major (Bo) and Tammy Brown; son, Phillip Swann; grandsons, Marcus (Dee), Michael (Breia), Matthew (Mercedes), and Brandon Swann; granddaughter, Laura Jimenez Robison; great granddaughters, Chasity and Cali; great grandson, Jordan; and her sister-in-love for 64 years, Juanita Swann Gilbert. Also left to mourn her are her siblings, Katherine Russell, Darrell Griswold, Jerry Griswold, Linda Sternberg, Janice Lequin, and Brenda Thornberg. Betty was a joy to all who were blessed to know her and she also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by a brother, L.C. Griswold.
A visitation will be held from 1:45 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
