Carmen Edith (Montes) Enloe, 70, of Greenville, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on January 27, 1952, in Las Palmas, Utuado, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Mercedes Montes Colón and Carmen Santiago.
Carmen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and a longtime member of Dunean Baptist Church.
She worked as a nurses’ aide at Betheden Nursing Center, and after retirement, she spent much of her free time outdoors or with her family. She enjoyed making others laugh and was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Carmen was known for her quick wit, her infectious laughter, and her kind and compassionate spirit.
Carmen is survived by her husband, James Michael Enloe, with whom she shared 44 years of love; her son, Angel Rios of Greenville, and her daughter, Jacquelyn Garcia (Luis Garcia) of Greenville; her three granddaughters, Stephanie Garcia, Kelly Casey Vaughn, and Alexandra Garcia; her brothers, Monserrate Santiago of Bayamon, Puerto Rico and Juan Carlos Viruet of Kissimmee, Florida; and finally, many nieces, nephews, and “adopted” family who loved her deeply.
In addition to her parents, Carmen was preceded in death by her daughter, Nereida Rosie Vaughn (Grady Vaughn); her grandson, James Allen Vaughn; and her sister, Ana Rodriguez.
The world of those who loved Carmen is forever changed. She is loved beyond words and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Carmen will be laid to rest Monday, August 22, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC.
