On October 12, 2021, God called Carolyn Baum Baber to her Heavenly home.
Almost 91 years ago, on October 22, 1930, Arthur and Mabel Thomas Baum welcomed Carolyn into their family in Lancaster, Ohio. She soon became a big sister to her sisters and brothers, Charlene Baum Syms, Claris Baum Baer (deceased), Thomas Arthur Baum (deceased), Arthur Baum, Jr. (deceased), and Jerry Baum.
Carolyn met the love of her life, James K. Baber (deceased), and they married on July 22, 1953. After moving to several different states during the early years of their marriage, they soon started their family. Ann Baber Boiter (Mike), Jim Baber (Tami), David Baber (deceased) (Tammy) and Joy Baber Wells (Leonard). She was a devoted wife and mother, the world’s best “Gma,” great grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend. She was “gma” to Michele, Todd (Melissa), Justin (Alex), Grayson (Megan), Austen, and Phillip (Courtney), plus a few bonus grand children. She was great grandma to Leyton, Reagan, Indie and Payson.
She was known as one of the sweetest people by many, yet she was so very humble, graceful, kind and had a heart of gold. Her Bible was never far from her, which we saw her reading often and always felt the prayers that she prayed daily for her family. Proverbs 31, maybe the best chapter in the Bible would describe our Mom. She faithfully attended church and rarely missed a Sunday. She was a former member of Hampton Park Baptist Church and started attending Fairview Baptist Church later in life. “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
While being a homemaker and bookkeeper, she enjoyed reading, baking… especially those coconut cream pies (oh that meringue on top was a chore at times), apple pies and cinnamon rolls (for her baby brother, Jerry)… sewing, puzzles, hash cookings, and visiting with the best neighbors.
In addition to her parents, she was greeted with open arms in Heaven by her husband of 53 years, James Baber; her son, David Baber; siblings, Thomas Arthur Baum, Claris Baum Baer, and Arthur G. Baum, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Rainey.
Paying of respects will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. A graveside service to celebrate Carolyn will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park officiated by Preacher Keith Kelly.
