Alex was such an outstanding man and Principal and I loved working for him at Lakeview Middle School, Greer High, and for many years at Greenville High. He always kept me laughing! I will miss his quick wit and his fun loving personality! We were also lucky to be family friends and he and Ann raised two amazing children in Trina and Chad. I’m thinking of all of you and so grieved that he had to go through this terrible illness. I know he was comforted with all of you by his side. He certainly left you many memories and many funny stories that will keep him alive in your hearts.

My heartfelt condolences to the Martin and Freeman families for their loss. As a faculty member at Greenville High School and Brashier Middle College, I have heard of Mr. Martin multiple times and his devotion to education. Trina is undoubtedly a tremendous educator as a result of observing and learning from her father and continues to carry his good deeds through leading at BMC. My deepest sympathies to Trina and all other members of Mr. Martin's family.

Ann you and the family are in my thoughts and prayers. I will be out of town on Tuesday but you will be in my thoughts. One of many fond/funny memories of Alex occurred on the golf course with Alex, Randy Dozier and myself. Alex showed up wearing baby blue pants, yellow shirt and white golf shoes. He and Randy were riding together. Alex sliced his drive into the woods. Randy attempted to help him find it. After several minutes, we heard loud shouting, interesting vocabulary and suddenly two clubs came flying out of the woods on to the fairway. Alex and Randy appeared and Alex said he would take a floating mulligan. That’s why his clubs came floating out of the woods. ( the second club was Randy’s that Alex threw). I enjoyed my years working with Alex. He made a difference.

Alex was my college friend Trina’s kid brother, and he charmed me for life the first time I met him at the Martins’ home on Riggs Drive in Clemson. He was about 13, and he came in the room talking and smiling. Over the years it was a joy to watch him grow into such a fine man, loved and respected by so many, and always leading with that Alex smile! Sending love and my deepest sympathy to you all.

My deepest condolences to the Martin family. It was such an honor to serve Alex and Mrs. Martin throughout this journey. I will forever cherish my memories with Alex! I will never forget his, “COME ON PEOPLE!” He was one of few people here on the South who was able to look at my badge and pronounce my name absolutely “perfect!” I remember it so vividly. I can vividly remember the last time I saw him walking on his own. Being part of his last 9 months of his life was a blessing. I was blessed to be on that journey alongside his amazing wife! I had never seen such a dedicated and devoted wife. Mrs. Martin was very meticulous about Alex’s medications and I really admired that as well. Mrs. Martin showed her endless love for Alex in more ways that I could ever explain! I love you Alex, I will forever cherish my journey with you my friend! My outmost stubborn/fighter patient!!!! Con Amor, Nidia!

We have too many memories to recount. Alex had the quickest wit of anyone I have known, and he provided many moments of laughter for us starting in our college days . Most recently, two and a half years ago, he and Ann came to our house to deliver chicken noodle soup . At one point Alex looked at Ann as if to ask what they were doing here . Ann said “we re bringing soup because Jim had a heart attack.” Alex said “Well, I didn t know he was going to do THAT!” (Neither did Jim) We love you Alex and cherish the friendship we shared
