Charles Larry Darby, 81, husband of Diane Darby, died Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Charlie and Lila Cothran Darby. Larry was a Mason and Shriner for over 60 years, and he enjoyed working in his yard, caring for his pets, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kristi Horne and husband, Wayne, Kris Zix, and Brad Zix; and five grandchildren, Darbi Hogan and husband, Matt, Will Zix, Jack Zix, Andrew Zix, and Tinsie Darby.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jody Darby, and his brother, Robert Darby.

A visitation will be held Sunday, August 20, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the Memorial Service at 12:00 noon.

Memorials may be made to the Greenville Humane Society.

The family would like to thank, Dr. Saeeda Chowdhury, Greenville Prisma ICU Trauma Team, and the nurses and staff at the Cancer Center at Patewood. We appreciate your care and dedication to Larry through out the years.

Larry, I'm glad to have had the pleasure of knowing you the past 22 years, you've been a true neighbor. Always willing to extend a helping hand, I will remember our conversations sitting around the back yard. To the family, my sincere condolences. You will be missed dear friend!

I have known Larry for many years working at Cryovac. He was a real nice man and was always friendly and a kind man. I really enjoyed working with him. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his family.

I was fortunate to work with Larry at Cryovac and BBA. He was an awesome advisor and a dear friend. He was compassionate, respectful and fair with all. I will deeply miss him.

I met Larry when I went to work at Cryovac in '63. Very impressed with his work ethic and friendliness. Prayers for the family.
