With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Christie Colleen Goodhue on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Christie was the beloved wife of Rachel Ash-Bernal, MD, and devoted mother of Tarin Goodhue Westfall. She was surrounded by her wife, her daughter, and son-in-law as she peacefully transitioned. Christie’s departure has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Born on September 2, 1968 in Lubbock, Texas and raised in San Diego, Christie graduated from El Cajon Valley High School. She was known for her kind and nurturing nature, always ready to offer a helping hand and a listening ear to those in need. Christie was a compassionate companion, sister, and friend, embodying the true essence of support and love. These traits served her well in her chosen profession as a registered nurse. She graduated with honors from Greenville Technical College. She was passionate about intensive care nursing and excelled in her career.
Christie’s passion for horses ignited at a young age, particularly in the realms of competitive jumping and the exhilaration of galloping her favorite equine companions along the beach and mountains of San Diego. She owned a horse farm in Clinton, South Carolina. With the guidance and assistance of her beloved late father, Frank Goodhue, she transformed the land into an idyllic farm for her horses. Over several decades, Christie rescued numerous horses, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment. She dedicated herself to training young individuals in the art of riding and horse care, sharing her knowledge and love for these majestic creatures. Christie also enjoyed the peaceful art of gardening and was an outstanding farmer, dedicated to the cultivation of her land and nurtured her many plants with tender care. Through her tireless efforts and unwavering commitment, Christie transformed her land into a haven of abundance and beauty.
Among Christie’s many remarkable traits, she was renowned for her vibrant zest for life. For several years, she resided in Hawaii, relishing the beach lifestyle and basking in the sun’s warmth and beauty. Together with her wife Rachel, Christie embarked on adventures to beaches around the world. They created cherished memories and found joy in each other’s company. Their laughter was infectious as they embraced new adventures like SCUBA diving in Hawaii and riding horses in England.
Christie will be deeply missed by her friends and family, leaving behind a void that cannot be filled. She is survived by her loving wife and best friend, Rachel Ash-Bernal, MD, her daughter, Tarin Goodhue Westfall and son-in-law, Austin Westfall. Christie will be remembered by her mother, Duchess Cox, sister, Tara Cox, sister, Sheila Goodhue, niece, Danielle Kim and countless friends and extended family members whose lives she touched.
