Cynthia “Cindy” L. (Rock) King, 62, of Greer, SC was called to be with the Lord on June 5, 2022 after an extended illness. She passed peacefully with her husband Larry by her side.
Cindy was born at Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, PA, on September 5, 1959. She was the oldest of five children, all of whom she loved dearly. She often spoke of fond memories growing up – visiting the beach, baking with her mother, and spending time with her younger siblings.
Life took her from Apollo, PA to Seminole, FL, and then back to Penn Hills, PA, where she attended Penn Hills High School. Cindy went on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania and spent one summer break visiting her family in Greenville. She took a summer job working as a Customer Service Representative at the Greenville Downtown Airport where she would meet her husband, Larry. It wasn’t long after that when she decided to make South Carolina her permanent residence.
Cindy was a loving wife and mother and devoted her life to raising her three children. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was.
In addition to her own children, Cindy cared for the kids in the neighborhood as if they were her own. Her house was a favorite gathering spot for her children’s friends and she was well-known among them for always serving the best snacks.
Anyone who met her immediately knew her kindness and selflessness. Soft-spoken and humble, Cindy never wanted to be the center of attention, but was always busy in the background, steady and supportive – everyone’s biggest cheerleader. She was an excellent cook who loved to try new recipes. The simplest pleasures in life brought her great joy – the sound of the waves crashing on the sand, the mountain leaves changing in the fall, the crickets chirping on a summer night, and watching the sunset over the lake. She found sentimental value in everything around her.
Cindy was immensely proud of her family, and she leaves behind beautiful memories. She was dearly loved by many, and will be missed by all of those who knew her.
She is predeceased by her mother and father, Amelia Ann (Znanec) Rock of Greer, SC and Paul James Rock of Ormond by the Beach, FL; her maternal grandparents, Michael and Anna Znanec of Vandergrift, PA; and her paternal grandparents, Paul and Katherine Rock of Pittsburgh, PA.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Larry King; her Godparents, Nikola and Elizabeth DePetris of Apollo, PA; her siblings and their spouses, Paul and Sherri Rock of Greer, SC, Melanie and Latham Newhouse of Greenville, SC, William and Dale Rock of Travelers Rest, SC, and Timothy Rock of Wilbur-By-The-Sea, FL; her three children and their spouses, April and Adam Starrett of Peachtree City, GA, Christopher and Meghan King of Greenville, SC, and Emily King of Greer, SC; two grandchildren, Evan and Isla Starrett; and eight nieces and nephews.
