Curtis Calvin Ward, 75, of 601 Cherokee Dr., Greenville died at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown on Friday, April 30, 2004. Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Monroe C. and Janie McHam Ward. Mr. Ward was a graduate of Parker High School, Class of 1945. He attended Furman University for two years, where he ran track and played basketball for Coach Lyles Alley. He was a heavyweight boxing champion in the US Marine Corps. He played golf for The Good Guys Golf Group of Furman University. Mr. Ward retired as a line transmission supervisor from Duke Power after 48 years of service. He was a life member of the Walden Masonic Lodge #274, member of the American Legion Post Three, Scottish Rite, Hejaz Shrine and The Hejaz Walking Patrol. Mr. Ward served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Marine Corps. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Margaret Woodall Ward, of the home; three daughters, Terri Ward Strange of Taylors, Toni Ward Mahaffey and husband Mike of Simpsonville, and Tracy Ward Francis and husband Michael of Snellville, GA; one foster brother, D.B. Evans of Taylors; 6 grandchildren, Thomas R. Strange, III, Terra E. Strange, Megan M. Mahaffey, Thomas M. Mahaffey, Jr., Michael A. Francis, and Ashley M. Francis; and one great-grandson, Thomas R. Strange, IV. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:30 ? 7:00 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Downtown with funeral services on Monday at 12 Noon in the Chapel. Interment to follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Ryan Hendley, Mark Hendley, Todd Hendley, Bud Hunt, Buck Holcombe, and Curt Tharpe will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be former colleagues and crew members at Duke Power, teammates at Parker High School and Furman University, The Good Guys Golf Group of Furman University, and The Hejaz Marching Patrol.
