Dakota Jayce Johnson, 7.5 months old, passed away in his home on Sunday May 16, 2021.

Dakota was born on September 25, 2020 and was diagnosed with congenital CMV and lissencephaly. The first two months of his life were spent in the NICU, and when he finally came home, just days before Thanksgiving, he was on oxygen and a feeding tube. Dakota had two other hospital stays due to breathing difficulties, and although he had a rough start, he was a very happy baby. He was always smiling and loved getting snuggles and attention.

Our precious angel blessed our lives forever. His earthly body was healed as he entered the Maker’s Kingdom. So many of our family who have passed before Dakota welcomed him into his eternal home.

Dakota had a lot of family who loved him dearly. He leaves behind his Mommy, Ashley Smith, his Daddy, Terrazian Johnson, his big sister, Tearanee “Ayla” Johnson and many cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and uncles, grandparents, great grandparents, and a great great grandmother. Dakota was greeted at the pearly gates by two great grandmothers, several great great grandparents, his aunt, Josalyn and his great uncle, Jon.

Our angel will be missed.

A visitation with public viewing will be held Friday, May 21, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by the funeral service at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel.

Dakota was the sweetest baby ever. From the first time I saw him to the last, I would always egg him on and yes even flirt with the little guy. Sometimes he would play hard to get other times it was like he knew who I was and wanted me to give him attention. Even though his body may have been limited by the c-cmv his heart and soul were not weighed down at all. He could just give a look of trust and love like he completely understood. Other times he’d give a look like “mommy what is this crazy lady doing?” I’m so sad to see my little boyfriend gone so soon. However I am happy to know he is no longer with pain. That he has been met by his Heavenly Father who heals all and loves all. His mom and dad are the best parents and will always be his parents. Though they might not be able to hold him how they want they can always hold and carry him in their hearts. I love you guys! Stay strong through this.
