Daniel “Dan” Walter Hester, 84, of Greenville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 11, 2021.
Born in Greenville County, he was the son of the late Crawford Walter Hester and Grace Vickery Hester.
Dan was a graduate of Parker High School, class of 1955. He served in the United States Army in 1957 as a SP4, 846th Trans Company, Fort Bragg, NC. He was on active standby during the Berlin Crisis and Cuban Missile Crisis. He retired from Hoechst/Celanese, Greenville SC and Shelby, NC Plants as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was an avid hunter and member of the Deerwood Hunt Club in Laurens, SC and enjoyed many other hobbies. Dan was a lifelong member of Reedy River Baptist Church and served faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Building and Grounds Chairman, and Chairman of the Cemetery Trust. He also served in the Men’s Ministry and taught the Royal Ambassadors how to become better Christian men. He was devoted to his Lord, Jesus Christ, church, and was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Dan was generous, fun loving, and always ready to do for others.
He married his sweetheart, Nancy Bishop, and they raised two sons together.
In addition to his loving wife of 59 years, Nancy Bishop Hester, he is survived by two sons, David Hester and his wife Lisa Edwards Hester, and Adam Hester; two granddaughters, Alexandria Hester and Addison Hester; and a brother-in-law, Bobby Bishop and his wife B.D.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, July 22, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Reedy River Baptist Church. Burial will be held in Reedy River Baptist Church Cemetery as it’s 5th generation Hester to be buried in the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to RRBC Cemetery Maintenance Fund.
