Dionysius Nikitis Giakoumelos fell asleep in the Lord on August 28, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Health Care in Kinston, NC.
He was born in Zaknythos, Greece on Feb 3, 1958 to the late Nikitas and Anthula Giakoumelos.
“Danny” as he was known to all, arrived in the United States in 1975. With an entrepreneurial spirit coupled with a hard-driven work ethic, he settled in Greenville, SC.
A restaurateur, Danny has owned several businesses throughout his career, currently owning Paisanos in Duncan, SC and The Olympian in Kinston, NC. His dream was to be a professional soccer player. Mr. Giakoumelos was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral. He was a very loving and caring person who put everyone else before himself.
He is survived by two sons, Jeromie Giakoumelos and his wife, Brittany, and son Nikitas Yianni Giakoumelos; his granddaughter, Zoe Giakoumelos; brother, Gregorios Giakoumelos; and sister Anna Stravopodis.
A visitation will be held from 9:45 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at St. George Orthodox Cathedral followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family kindly requests attendees to please wear a mask and practice social distancing.
