Doris Mitchell Sweeney, 87, died Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at her home.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Hastings Mitchell.
Mrs. Sweeney was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Doris was a nurse with an RN from Greenville Tech. She served at St. Francis Hospital as well as a local pediatrician.
She is survived by three children, Mark M. Sweeney of Greenville, SC, Jeanine S. Fleming and her husband, Joe W. Fleming of Tucker, GA, Kevin J. Sweeney of Wellington, NZ; five grandchildren, Patrick Mitchell Sweeney of Washington, D.C., Clare Sweeney and her husband, Dr. Wes Murphy of Tacoma, WA, Brian Sweeney and his wife, Nancy Sweeney of Greer, SC, and Dylann Sweeney and Mara Sweeney both of Wellington, NZ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheryl Sweeney; and her son, John Sweeney.
A Vigil will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown, with a visitation to follow from 7:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The family requests that the CDC guidelines in wearing masks and social distancing be followed. Interment will be held at a later date in Mahwah, NJ.
