Dorothea Cook ?Cookie? Mayfield, 88, of 107 River Oaks Drive, died Saturday, October 29, 2005. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was wife of the late Gus H. Mayfield and the daughter of the late Harry A., Sr and Katherine Elizabeth Lentz Cook. Mrs. Mayfield was retired from the Greenville Hospital System and she was a member of Welcome Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class and a member of the Golden Zest. Surviving is a son, David E. Mayfield, of Winterville, GA; a daughter, Kathy Mayfield Smith, and her husband, Bryan, of Columbia. Six grandchildren, Gina Fields, Leah Godfrey, Dawn Vaughan, Bryanna, Marlayne, and Salomon Smith; eight great grandchildren, Brittany, Justin, and Samantha Fields, Austin, Leanna, and Sarah Godfrey, Trenton and Landen Vaughan; a sister, Naomi Cornelius, of Towson, MD; a brother, T. Calvin Cook, of St. Petersburg, FL. She was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert and Harry Cook. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, with burial in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6:30-8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. The Gleaner Sunday School Class and the Golden Zest will be honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Welcome Baptist Church Building Fund, 2730 Anderson Road, Greenville, SC 29611. The family will be at the residence.
