On Monday, September 5, 2022, Dorothy “Dot” Alice Buiter passed away just two days before her 91st birthday.
Dorothy was born on September 7, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, to Herman and Lois Reimann. She met her future husband, Ray Buiter, in elementary school, and she later graduated from Kelly High School in Chicago. Ray and Dorothy were married on November 27, 1952 and settled in Worth, Illinois, where they raised their three children and actively served in their local church, Oak Forest Baptist Temple, later renamed Heritage Baptist Church.
Dorothy was known as a hard-working wife, mom, and Sunday School teacher who passionately loved Jesus, her family, her church, and her friends, and she served everyone with a smiling face filled with love, joy, and kindness. She also had a love for baking, gardening, oil painting, and cheering on her beloved Chicago Cubs. Dorothy was so proud of her family members who serve God all over the United States and around the world, and she prayed for them daily and talked with them regularly. Hers was a life well-lived in the daily service of God and others, and her family members rise up and call her “blessed” and honor her life and ministry that continues through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Herman; mother, Lois; brother, Jack; sister, Judy; and her husband, Ray. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Donna Robertson, Mike Buiter, and Jan Alexander, as well as 12 grandchildren and their spouses, plus 30 great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 3:30 p.m. A private burial will be held in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Il.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Cornerstone Baptist Church Building Fund, 8508 Pelham Rd, Greenville, SC 29615.
