Douglas “Doug” Bryan Murrell, 64, of Simpsonville, SC, passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late Johnnie and Valoree Reeves Murrell.

On January 26, 1976, Doug earned Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 13, and later served as an Eagle Scout mentor in Troop 776. Doug started his career at Lucas Automotive, and then moved to Hitachi to be a team leader. He went back to Greenville Tech to get his HVAC technician certificate and finished his career as Chief Engineer with Hampton Inn. He was also a member of Grove Road Baptist Church. His hobbies included traveling, riding his motorcycle, and keeping up with all things Clemson Football. He always loved to try new things, and truly lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his three children, Breanne, Connor, and Drew Murrell; a granddaughter, Clara Robbins; and his brother, Steve Murrell.

The funeral service will be Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast with visitation to follow. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Doug was my true friend. He got me thru some pretty hard times about 3 years ago. We would call each other from time to time to talk about Clemson, going to the lake, riding motorcycles...and just every day life. I will miss him dearly. RIP my friend Dougie??

Sorry it’s been so long but very sorry about Doug passing. We are cousins and didn’t see each other much but I’ll always be grateful for him always coming to my family’s passing miss him and his motorcycle.

Doug you will truly be missed and I've enjoyed working with you at Hampton Inn And Suites Greenville Airport. We have had some good laughs and story swapping. I will miss you so much and you will be forever remembered.

I knew Doug over 45 years. I saw him in January and talked to him 2 weeks before he passed. We kept in touch over the years and spoke often. When you have a friend like Doug you stay close. My heart breaks for Connor, Drew and Bre. Doug lived for his kids and loved them with all his heart. Doug was loved by many and will be missed. I've always heard God only takes the best, he took the best when he took you my friend. I loved you then, I'll miss now. Rest in peace until we meet again my friend.

To the Murrell Family, my deepest condolences over your loss. I have always considered Doug a friend! I worked with him at Hitachi off of Mauldin Road up until the day they closed the doors there. I did remember the last car he bought before we left Hitachi was a loud color, but I can’t remember which color it was. I told him he would never lose it on a parking lot. I will always remember him as being a dear friend who was always there to help when he was needed. Until next time my friend, Aloha!!???

Rest in peace Doug, I went to Carolina high school with Doug and all of his classmates are so saddened by his passing. Sending the family comforting prayers. Fly high, my friend.

Sorry to hear this about Doug , he and I grew up in Dunean I remember him from childhood, over the last couple years a bunch of us from the neighborhood have been getting together and having lunch, it was always good to see Doug, Prayers for you all..
