Edith Marie Crawford, 89, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
Born in Greenville, SC in 1934, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Alva and Inez Barr Nicholson.
A graduate of Parker High School in 1952, Edith devoted her skills and expertise to the Shrine Temple, where she served as a dedicated secretary for many years until her retirement. Edith’s meticulous attention to detail and warm demeanor made her an invaluable asset to the organization.
Edith’s love story with her husband, began while she was finishing her senior year in high school, and their connection was instant. Their wedding marked the beginning of a remarkable journey together, spanning over 71 years of unwavering love and partnership.
Edith was a vibrant soul who found joy in dancing, with the shag being her favorite style. Whether she was dancing or spending quality time with her family, Edith cherished the moments shared with her loved ones. Her presence at family vacations, celebrations, especially sporting events, was a testament to her unwavering support and dedication.
She was known as Nana to everyone, not just to her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-granddaughter and relished in creating lasting memories together. Edith’s warm embrace and unwavering love will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her legacy will continue on in the hearts of her loving husband, Bobby; two children, Debbie and Mike Merritt of Poinicana, FL, Dale Crawford and Terri Craig of Greenville; Carol Heffner of Jacksonville, FL, who was like a second daughter to her; two adoring grandsons, Mikie and Heather Merritt and Nick and Meredith Merritt; and six loving great-grandchildren, Christian and Reid Merritt, Maddox Merritt, MacLaine Merritt, Maguire Merritt, Michaela Merritt and Olivia Orr.; and one precious great great-granddaughter, Crawford Gray Merritt.
The welcoming of friends and family will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.at the Greenville Shrine Club and Event Center with a Tribute to Edith at 1:00 p.m. A celebration of Life Reception for friends and family to follow.
