Elizabeth Bagwell Johnson, a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend peacefully passed away in the presence of her loving family and cherished friends on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the age of 75.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina she was the daughter of the late Fred Lynn Bagwell, Sr. and Juliaette Davis Bagwell. She was the granddaughter to the late Lucy Kilpatrick Davis, of St. Petersburg, FL, and Lillian Waters Bagwell of Greenville.
Elizabeth received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Carolina School of Nursing. She began her career at Greenville General Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. She then worked as the Charge Nurse in the Emergency Trauma Unit at Baptist Hospital before retiring as a Cardiovascular Critical Care Nurse Specialist at Providence Hospital in Columbia. Throughout her illustrious career, she provided exceptional care to countless patients and their families and touched the lives of many. Her dedication and hard work garnered respect from colleagues and patients alike, earning her a place in their hearts forever.
Elizabeth was such a caring, loving, and giving person. She loved to decorate for every holiday and welcomed others with a beautiful home and delightful conversations. Her perseverance in life is a trait the family always admired about her.
Beyond her professional achievements, Elizabeth was a loving mother to her two daughters whom she dedicated her life to; Alison Paige Johnson and Elizabeth Ashley Johnson, of Greenville: and her “3rd daughter”, Kimberly Frost, of Lexington. She cherished her role as a mother and devoted herself to nurturing and supporting her children throughout their lives. Her memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of her adored “grandchildren”, Clarise Colon, Kerin Colon, Brittany and Tyler Crumley, and Tyler Frost; and “great grandsons”, Mason and Bowen Crumley; her hero and brother, US Air Force Vietnam Veteran, Fred Lynn Bagwell Jr., and her best friend and sister-in-law, Terrie Bailey Bagwell; her beloved niece, Alena and her husband Jim McGonnell and their children, McKenna, Ladd and Taylor, all of Spartanburg; nephew, Fred “Koby” Lynn Bagwell, III, his wife, Whitney, and their daughters, Ruby Lynn and Lucy Mae, of Redding, CA; and cousin, Edwin Lynn Hall of Ocala, FL; her beloved and cherished dogs, Jacques, Melvie, and Remy; along with numerous other cherished and loving family and friends.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s remarkable life will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel with a visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. The family is requesting for those in attendance to wear holiday attire, as Christmas was Elizabeth’s favorite time of year.
Elizabeth Bagwell Johnson will be forever remembered for her hospitality, heart of gold, and radiating warmth and care to all those around her. Her dedication to her children, her unwavering love for her family, and her kind, welcoming spirit will continue to inspire generosity in generations to come. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
