Ellison “Gene” Eugene Mann, age 79, devoted husband of Judith “Judy” Bates Mann passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Gene was born in Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Reverend Beauford Mann and Lidabell Buckheister Mann.

Gene’s memory will live on through the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Judy; two wonderful sons Dennis Mann and wife Cindy, Jimmy Mann and wife Cheri; four adoring grandchildren, Danielle, Randall, Tyler and Richard; one precious great granddaughter, Addie; brother-in-law James Bates and two loving Shih Tzus Apple Annie and Buttons.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by grandson Dustin Mann; and his sister, Martha Mann Finley.

Gene was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church. He ran the soundboard at church every Wednesday and Sunday.

Gene was a truck driver all of his adult life and retired from Bilo after 28 years of driving for them. Gene retired in 2001.

One of Gene’s favorite things in life was driving his “Red Bug” around Jekyll Island with Julie his Shih Tzu and his two grand dogs Snickers and Simon (both Shih Tzus).

The family would like to give a special thanks to Charlie Kirby & Martha.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 21st, 2021 from 12:00 noon until 1:15 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made to Harmony Baptist Church, 80 Long Forest Drive Greenville, S.C. 29617.

I am going to miss his smile, and love for life! Papa was a tenacious man, that had the will to live like no other I've known. Jesus Christ was his Lord and Savior, and he worked in his church every Sunday. Papa and Granny were married nearly 63 years, and loved each other unconditionally! He taught my children trades that will carry them throughout their lives. Mostly his morals and ethics, that will be legendary for generations to come. When I count my blessings, I count Papa Mann many times. May you rest easy, and be in total peace. May you rest high on the mountain and protect us from afar.
