Estelle Southerlin Looper, 96, of Greenville, loving wife of the late Jesse Columbus (JC) Looper passed away peacefully at the Woodlands at Furman on April 2, 2022.

Born in Marietta, SC she was a daughter of the late LC and Euiene Mayfield Southerlin.

Estelle was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church. She graduated from from Winthrop University with a degree in Education and completed a Master’s Degree at Converse College. She dedicated thirty years to teaching in Greenville County Schools, always remembering and recognizing former students from her years in the classroom.

After retiring, Estelle loved to travel around the world. She was very active in her nineties, golfing, hiking and volunteering. She was a member of the Greenville Natural History Association for many years and formed lifelong friendships with the hiking group. North Greenville hospital was fortunate to have her volunteer many days a week for more than 25 years after she retired from teaching. She enjoyed and attended performances at Greenville Little Theater.

Estelle’s greatest joy in life was to host family gathering at her home.

Estelle leaves behind her only son, Dale Looper and his wife, Lynn, of Travelers Rest; and a sister, Edna Hawkins of Marietta. She will be long remembered by her grandchildren, Hillary Looper and Jesse (Margaret Ann) Looper; special niece, Jo Henson (Maurice) of River Falls; sister in law, Joyce Southerlin of Dunnellon, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews around the country.

In addition to her parents and loving husband JC, Estelle was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Southerlin of Dunnellon, Florida.

A visitation will be held, Tuesday, April 5, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Marietta First Baptist Church Gym, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. in the church gym. Burial will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The Reverend Brian Spearman and The Reverend Maurice Henson will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Marietta First Baptist Church Building Fund 2936 Greer Highway, Marietta, SC 29661

Dale and Family. I came to Greenville in 1982 and attended Bible School there on North Parker. I would love to walk up and down the road between the school and your mother's home. Your mother always had such a lovely, big smile and greeting for us "walkers". I married and stayed here and Mrs. Looper continued to be a joyful neighbor, interested in others.
