Evelyn McDowell, 90, of Greenville, beloved wife of the late Louise McDowell, passed away at her home on August 30, 2022.
Born in Greenville on December 18, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Floy Mae Hamilton and a father she never knew.
Evelyn attended Greenville High School. She fell in love with Louie McDowell in her senior year of high school and they were married in January of that year. In 1982, Louie suddenly passed away after more than 30 years of marriage, but he remained her only love.
She loved and supported her church, family, friends, the Gamecocks, the Braves, and Duke basketball. She forever demonstrated strength and dedication in all she did.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Liz McDowell and Anita McDowell; and her son, Ed McDowell and his wife, Sherry McDowell. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Maurie (Cliff), Courtenay, Elizabeth, Brandon and Michaela; and six great-grandchildren, Clara, Harry, Lacey, Chad, Maxton and Jaxon.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Grisham; and her brother, Leonard Riddle.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2022, from 1:00p.m. until 1:45p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, followed by a funeral service at 2:00p.m. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
