Fanida “Faye” Berrong Ayers, 91, of Columbia, formerly of Greenville, wife of the late Virgil Gene Ayers, died August 2, 2021.

Born in Madison County, GA, she was the daughter of the late James Lester and Bessie Gilreath Berrong.

Mrs. Ayers was an active member of Shandon Baptist Church and the Faith Sunday School Class in Columbia. She was a past member of Dunean Baptist Church in Greenville. She enjoyed fashion, cooking, and dining out with friends.

She is survived by her son, Rickey Ayers of Columbia; sister, Jimmie Rae Reeves of Atlanta; niece, Sandra Mele of Atlanta; niece, Wanda Barlow; niece, Deana Hale of Florida; nephew, Scott Ayers; niece, Alisa Ayers; and nephew, Kelly Ayers.

A cryptside service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1 Pine Knoll Dr., Greenville, SC 29609. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dunean Baptist Church, 21 Allen St., Greenville, SC 29605 or a charity of one’s choice.

I am so very sorry to hear that Ms. Faye passed away. She was a very classy lady with a spirited personality. I had the privilege of taking Ms. Faye out for lunch most weeks and got to listen to her many stories about her family and work experiences. We had a great time together and became good friends. I am going to miss her. Rick, I am praying for peace, comfort and strength for you and your family. Lean on the Lord and He will carry you througb.
