Mrs. Frances Louise Worrell Jones, a lifelong resident of Greenville, passed away at her home on Monday, April 5, 2021.
Mrs. Jones was born July 11, 1936 in Greenville, South Carolina. She was a daughter of late Joseph and Mary Ray Worrell and widow of Joseph Ronald Jones.
Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended Brevard Junior College. She spent most of her career as a homemaker.
She was an avid gardener and took pride in tending to her yard. She grew a variety of plants and flowers which gave her great joy.
Mrs. Jones was an active member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, where she participated in several activities. She regularly volunteered at the church’s food pantry and enjoyed helping each summer with Vacation Bible School. She also felt a special calling to send cards and notes to members of her church and community who were sick, mourning or in need of encouragement.
Survivors include her sister, Sara Worrell Newton of Thomson, Georgia; two children, Joseph Jones of Aurora, Colorado, and Becca Jones, of Greenville; two grandchildren, Ashley Jones and Preston Bray Jones; a host of nieces and nephews; and two wonderfully caring friends, Dot Yount and Jean Penland.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her daughter, Frances Ann Jones; and 11 siblings, Joseph Worrell, Thomas Worrell, Bonner Worrell, Ann Worrell Simmons, Nell Worrell Blackwell, Robert Worrell, Martha “Putt” Worrell, Everette “Sabo” Worrell, Nancy Worrell Hicks, Jon Worrell, and Barbara Worrell.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 13, from 12:00 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. at St. Matthew United Methodist Church 701 Cleveland Street, Greenville. The funeral service for Mrs. Jones will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with the Rev. Randy Smith officiating. Masks are required and all attendees are asked to follow the CDC guidelines for social distancing.
A private burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery West.
