Frederick Lybrand Fowler, 91 of 20 Broughton Drive died Saturday, May 22, 2004. Born in Jonesville, S.C., he was a son of the late Arthur Abbot and Estelle Lybrand Fowler and the husband of Dorothy Bozard Fowler. Mr. Fowler was a graduate of Wofford College, Duke University and New York University. For more than forty years, Mr. Fowler dedicated his life to public education as a teacher, principal and assistant superintendent with The School District of Greenville County. He was a member of the S.C. Association of School Administrators, S.C. and American Association School Personnel Administrators, as well as the Kiwanis Club. A devoted member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, he was a member of the John Holmes Bible Class, former Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Child Development Center Board, Worship Committee, and the United Methodist Men. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter-in-law, Kirby KittredgeFowler Johnstone of Georgetown, SC; grandchildren, Frederick Lybrand Fowler III Brand, Bethedsa, MD; Catharine Schrader Fowler of Charleston, SC, John Bozard Fowler Joby of Charlottesville, VA; a sister, Mrs. A.M. Proctor Sarah of Aiken, SC; a brother, F.K. Fowler Buck of Beaufort, SC. He was preceded in death by his only child, Dr. Frederick Lybrand Fowler, Jr. Funeral services will be Monday, at 1:30 pm at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church with entombment in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-5:30 pm Sunday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Memorials maybe made to Fred L. Fowler, Jr. Scholarship Fund at Davidson College, P.O. Box 7174, Davidson, NC 28035; Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, 200 Buncombe St. Greenville, SC 29601; and St. Francis Hospice, 414 Pettigru St., Greenville, SC 29601. The family will be at the residence.
