Gene Lollis

Henry Eugene "Gene" Lollis, 84, husband of Miriam Glymph Lollis, died January 9, 2009 at NHC of Mauldin. Born in Lanett, Alabama, January 12, 1924, he was the son of the late Ben Guy and Nancy White Lollis. Mr. Lollis grew up in Greenville and attended city schools. He was a veteran of WWII as a pilot in the US Air Force. He graduated from Clemson University in 1949 with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in the textile industry for 35 years, the last 25 years with Cone Mills where he was Chief Engineer of the Finishing Division for 10 years and later Corporate Manager of Energy Services. He retired in 1984. Mr. Lollis was a life member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers, a member of National Society of Professional Engineers, a Registered Professional Engineer in South Carolina and North Carolina, and Past President of American Textile Managerial Engineers Society. He was a member of Holly Tree Country Club for 25 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Greenville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara Lollis Kirby and husband William H. Kirby, Jr. of Lilburn, Georgia, and Nancy Lollis Davis and husband J. Russ Davis of Greenville; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Davis, Mary Grace Davis and Anna Kirby Ottosen and husband Corey; and one sister, Rachael Sammons. He was predeceased by four siblings, Margery Thrasher, Ben Guy Lollis, Jr., Leon Lollis and Jack Lollis. The funeral service will be held at Carpenter Chapel, First Baptist Church of Greenville, on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 1:30 PM. The visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:15 PM. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Greenville, 847 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC, 29601.
