Gene Nelson, 55, husband of Betty Whitmore Nelson, died Sunday, August 31, 2008. Born in Haywood County, NC, he was the son of the late Joseph Jack Nelson and Barbara Ann Galloway Saunders. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Dale Hendrix and husband Bobby, a son, Travis Nelson and wife Robynn, a grandson Cameron Hendrix, all of Ware Shoals, and two brothers, Mike Nelson of Easley, and David Nelson of Blue Ridge. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 7 to 8:30 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 3 pm in the Downtown Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
