Gene T. Byars, Sr., 72, of 516 Piedmont Highway and widower of Peggy Knight Byars, died August 3, 2004 at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson. Born in Campobello, S.C., he was a son of the late Woodrow and Louise Duncan Byars, and he was a Baptist. Gene retired from U.S. Air Force where he served as a Plant Operator. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Srickland of Piedmont; a son, Gene T. Byars, Jr., of Alaska; three sisters, one brother, three grandsons, and four great-granddaughters. Service: 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 6, 2004 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation: 7:00 ? 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Family is at 6 Sue Cleveland School Road.
