My condolences to George's family. It was with great sadnes I recently found out that George had lost his fight with the pancreatic cancer. I always considered him a wonderful mentor, friend and shining example of what a true lifelong learner and educator. I had the privilege of taking many professional development classes with George as the instructor. I thoroughly enjoyed the times I subbed in the schools that he was in over the years: Slater Marietta, Heritage and Stone. His friendly face and kind words were always appreciated.
Donna Blevins left a message on August 6, 2023:
When I was getting my Master’s in School Counseling, he was one of my site supervisors, and later my mentor. I did my practicum at Stone Academy and was supposed to use my two subsequent internships at the middle and high school levels. I did do this, but I split my time between League Academy and Stone during my first internship. There was still so much to learn from him, I wasn’t ready to leave! His most important lesson was to trust my gut, sometimes even over my degree. I wouldn’t be the school counselor I am, without him. I’ve not seen his wife and daughter in over 10 years, but I’m sending them all my love and strength.
Kristi Berry left a message on June 7, 2023:

George I loved reconnecting with you a few years ago and have enjoyed keeping in touch since then. You were a bratty younger cousin but such a sweetheart. Your courage in facing your cancer battle is an example we should all follow. Be at peace, and I'll see you someday at the Curtis Cardgame in the Sky.

I had the pleasure of working with George during my time as a field tech at Slater-Marietta Elementary. Whether it was a good day or a bad day for him, you never could tell it by his actions. He was one of the kindest, friendliest people I've gotten to know and I send my condolences to his family. Please know that he was loved by his work family as well.

I had the opportunity to care for Mr. Champlin as an infusion nurse at the cancer center. He was always kind, and a pleasure to have as a patient. He was one of those people who, when he left, was a far greater blessing to me than I could have ever been to him. Many prayers for the family during these difficult days, and the ones ahead.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Mel & Caitlin I am so sorry, this is such an earthly loss but a heavenly gain. I have several fond memories of George at the church camp in Batesburg SC. His big smile was always warm and ready for fun. He impacted many lives on his path. This is not goodbye but we will see him later because he has only changed his address. Heaven is getting sweeter each time a child of God goes home. I am sure we will see him agian standing at heavens gate with that wonderful smile asking what took us all so long to get home. Praying for you all.

I had the privilege to meet Mr. Champlin three years ago when my daughter started teaching at Slater-Marietta. It was obvious immediately of the love he had for his faculty, staff, students and community! I always felt welcomed and appreciated whenever I subbed there or was there to help my daughter in her classroom! He definitely made a lasting impression on everyone he met and will be greatly missed! Praying for strength and comfort for you and your family during this difficult time.

Dear Mr Champlin, you was such a sweet and caring soul. Your love, care, and compassion for the students at Slater was awesome. They loved the high fives you gave every student. The way you was with the students was like no other. You was the best Principal. The impact you left on my 2 girls, will last a lifetime. They still talk about you today and how you was the coolest Principal. My heart and prayers goes out to your family and children. R.I.P. Sir! You're no longer in pain and flying high with Jesus in your new body ??✝️ Until we meet again!
