Gwenda “Gwen” Gail Filchak

Gwenda “Gwen” Hairell Filchak, 76, of 102 Macintyre St. Simpsonville, SC passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Prisma Health System after a short illness.

Born in Florence, Alabama she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Beulah Hairell.

Gwen had a gift for making things beautiful. She attended Beauty School and spent 8 years as a beautician, and with her love of flowers and plants, was also a florist. She retired as an outside sales gift representative. Her love of flowers and crafts continued in her later years as she enjoyed making flower arrangements and door wreaths for her family. Gwen also enjoyed reading and was in a book club in her neighborhood, and she loved spending time at the beach.

Gwen married her high school sweetheart on November 28, 1964, and they were married for nearly 58 years. At her death, they had been together for 60 years. Two memorable anniversary trips include 18 days in Hawaii for their 40^th anniversary and Aruba to celebrate their 50^th.

She was predeceased in death by her sisters, Ayleen Johnston and Kathleen Belcher.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Filchak of the home; two sons, Troy Filchak (Jana) of Simpsonville, SC and Chad Filchak (Jamie) of Taylors, SC; brother, Edgar Hairell of Florence, AL; two grandchildren whom she loved with her whole heart, Annastasia Filchak of Simpsonville and James Filchak of Taylors; as well as many other family members and friends who will greatly miss her.

A visitation will be held Wednesday September 28, 2022 from 3:30 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast followed by the memorial service at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel.
