Helen Barnes Cassell, 84, of Easley, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022.
Born in Easley, SC, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Evie Landers Barnes.
Helen was a true southern woman to the core, with a very caring disposition and nurturing personality. Lovingly known as “Nana”, she had a heart of gold, always putting others first without regard to herself. Helen was an excellent cook that was known to make the best homemade biscuits and chocolate gravy around. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and enjoyed cheering on her team to victory. Helen loved flowers, it was the simple things that made her smile.
Above all, she loved her family and she sacrificed so much for them. Helen never wanted any credit for her sacrifices, because she considered it her pleasure and joy.
If you knew her, you knew she considered her greatest accomplishment was being a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted daughter. She will be forever missed but her legacy of love and caring will continue through those she leaves behind.
Those left to cherish her memory are daughters, Lynn Cobb and Cathy Swayngham (Tom); son, Victor Cassell; daughter-in-law, Robbie Cassell; grandchildren, Shane Cobb (Nichole), Josh Cobb (Cara), Melissa Johnson (Dave), Kayla Estep (Ross), and Kate Cassell (Phil Reid); and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Russ Cassell; son-in-law, Jeff Cobb; brothers, Carl Barnes and Frank Barnes, Jr.; and a sister, Francis Newton.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 123 W Antrim Drive, Greenville, SC 29607, www.alz.org/sc.
