Helen Rae Lawson was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend during her incredible 84 years of life. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022, surrounded by family. Helen was admired for her compassionate, gentle spirit. She is remembered by family as “all warmth and love.” “Our true angel on earth.” Helen was known for never saying an unkind word.
Born in Union, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Elzie Ray and Lorene Vinson Lawson. After graduating from Union High School in 1955, she attended Winthrop University where she developed an interest in banking and finance. Helen worked over 40 years in customer service at Wells Fargo Bank in Union, S.C.
She was an active member of Putman Baptist Church, Putman, S.C., and served for an extended time as church treasurer. Her many unselfish acts of kindness and volunteerism were recognized on Helen Lawson Appreciation Day at Putman Baptist Church in 2010. Helen was an excellent cook and baker, famous for her homemade desserts and cheese straws, which were eagerly awaited Christmas gifts. Helen especially loved spending time with her granddaughter and great grandchildren who were the true joys of her life.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Kacie Tucker and husband Shane; caregiver and cousin, Barbara Brown; great-grandchildren, Kyndal Tucker, Madysin Brown, Morgan Lawson and Jackson Tucker; a great great grandson, Mason Hollingsworth and a daughter-in-law, Janie Lawson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ken Lawson and Dean Lawson; and her sister Fran Allen.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m followed by the funeral service 2:00 p.m. at Putman Baptist Church, 3692 Buffalo-West Springs Highway, Buffalo, S.C. Burial will follow in Putman Baptist Church Cemetery.
