Helen Trouton Golightly, 98, wife of the late Lawrence Golightly, died Sunday, September 5, 2021.
Born in Travelers Rest, SC, she was the daughter of the late William and Lula Bryant Trouton.
Mrs. Golightly was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Greenville, where she was a teacher in the primary department in her early years. She was a proud American and an artist of unique talent, selling her works initially but in later years, cheerfully offering them to admirers. Helen loved words and wrote volumes of self-inspired poems, thought and personal history, as well as documenting events passing through time. Her works received many awards throughout the years. She loved her family, friends and all who came to her door, always dealing with situations compassionately.
Helen wrote a beautiful letter to her daughter which is included below:
Dear Judy,
Hush now precious one, please don’t cry! There comes a time when we all must die.
Just take heed now that I’m at peace, and from my pain I have been released.
I will always be watching over you, our love will always be held true.
Don’t weep now, don’t you mourn, for my heart will then be torn.
Just remember the good times we shared, knowing that we always cared.
I’ve not gone away, we’ll never part as I will always be in your heart.
Mother
She is survived by daughter, Judy Ann Golightly (Bill) Simpson; and Judy’s godchild, Sally Cappelmann.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Byron Trouton.
