Henry Carlton Poore, beloved and devoted husband of Cleo Jackson Poore, went home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2023.
Born in Anderson, SC, Henry was a son of the late John C. Poore and Stella Eaton Roach.
Henry proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and then dedicated many years of service to Pepsi-Cola before retiring. He was known for his mechanical skills and had a keen interest in fixing things.
Outside of work, Henry enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly fishing. Additionally, he was an excellent cook, delighting his family and friends with his mouthwatering recipes. He had a love for the Clemson Tigers and enjoyed watching their games. He frequented yard sales and the jockey lot, where he would spend hours searching for hidden treasures and unique items. Despite retiring, he remained active, always finding ways to stay busy and help others.
A faithful member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church for over 50 years, he served as a dedicated deacon and occasionally taught Sunday School when there was a need. He will always be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering faith, and passion for helping others. He has left a lasting imprint on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Henry is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Cleo Poore; half-brother, Elwin Poore; half-sisters, Lorene Christopher, Jane Hoffman, Judy Bott, Belva Bare, and Jeralene Perkins; stepbrothers, C.H. Smart, Robert Smart, Andrew Smart, Dwight Roach, Harold Smart, Larry Joe Smart, and Ronnie Smart; stepsisters, Delores Craigo, Donna Mills, and Diane Revels; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by stepfather, R.J. Roach; stepmother, Marie Poore; and stepbrother, Daryl Smart.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Washington Avenue Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be held in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
