James David “Jim” Jordan, Sr. 88 affectionally known as Poppa, Pop, Dad and Jimmy crossed from his earthly home to his eternal home on July 10, 2022, eleven days shy of his 89th birthday.
Jim was born in Greenville County on July 21, 1933, to Thomas Haskell “Hack” and Sarah Nelle McClellan Jordan. Jim was a lifelong resident of the West Gantt Community. He graduated from West Gantt High School in 1951. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. Upon completion of his military service, he began working for the Community Drug Store on Easley Bridge Road. While assisting customers at the curbside service area a girl with “the prettiest legs he had ever seen” came driving up in her yellow 1954 Ford convertible. Out of that chance meeting, came 65 years of love, family, friends, and a lifetime of happiness. On August 2nd, 1957, Jim & Shirley Ellison were married at the home of Pastor Dan Greer.
Jim approached his professional and personal life with unwavering loyalty, humility, compassion, and kindness. He was a devoted Christian who lived his life in accordance with his favorite verse. “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I love you.”, John 13:34
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirley, children: Lynn, Dave (Susan), and Julie Harp (Allen). He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Don, Harry & Sarah Nell Harp.
The family would like to thank the staff of Prisma Health Hospice of the Foothills for the kindness and compassion shared with our family.
No memorial service is immediately planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jim’s favorite charity St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org or your favorite charity.
