James Eugene Lott went to be with his Savior on February 14, 2022, where he joined Marie, his loving wife of 68 years, who had preceded him in death one month earlier.
James was born to Gladys and Johnnie Lott on February 17, 1931, in Metter, Georgia. Like his father, James was active in Boy Scouts and earned Eagle Scout in high school. When James was 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as an Electrician’s Mate during the Korean War.
After his military service, James met and married Marie, and they moved to Clemson, SC where James attended Clemson University, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
Upon graduation, James was employed by the J.E. Sirrine Company/Jacobs Engineering in Greenville, SC for over 30 years. In his church, James was a Sunday School teacher and an elder. James was an Assistant Boy Scout Master for several years and a volunteer with the Overcomers Men’s Addiction Recovery Program. James was a member of the Greenville National Railway Historical Society and served as president for several years.
In retirement, his joy was in spending time with Marie, his daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Wayne Hampton, Tim and Laurie Brown and Mike and Cindy Anderson. The older he grew, the closer was his walk with God, and his last years were graced with kindness, humility, and joy.
James was PaPa to his grandchildren Mary Beth (Rick), Annie (Don), Stephen (Cari), Scott (Betsy), Josh (Lauren), Katie (Lance) and Jake. They will remember PaPa as funny, adventurous, and wise. He delighted in his great grandchildren: Caitlyn, Casey, Zack, Will, Grayden, Jason, Charlotte, Sawyer, Emma Kate, Maddie, Will and Lucy.
James was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Mary Beth Hampton Clevenger, and Annie Hampton Ball, and 3 brothers Bobby Lott, Richard Lott and Jerry Lott. He is survived by his sister Carolyn Lott King (John) and sisters-in-law Juanita Colson Lott and Shirley Collins Lott.
A memorial service for James and Marie will be held at Red Hill Baptist Church in Edgefield, SC on March 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Miracle Hill Ministries designated to the Overcomers Program, 490 Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29607, or Boys Farm, P.O. Box 1713, Newberry, SC 29108.
