James (Jimmy) Machem Shelton, 88, husband of Anna Shelton of Easley, originally from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, died Thursday, January 6, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Dewey and Ruby Owens Shelton.
Mr. Shelton was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He worked in textiles and construction until retirement. He enjoyed square dancing and the simple things in life; watching game shows, putting together a good puzzle, and wood working. His great joy in life was his family and spending time with them. Jimmy looked forward to Sunday morning breakfast with his son, and every Sunday evening gathering with family. He was a special man who loved his family. A true southern gentleman, he set a proud example for all. His legacy will be carried on through his family.
In addition to his loving wife of 65 years, he is survived by three children, Jim Shelton, Jr. (Ginger), Jill Hitt (Jackie), and Donna Harden (Dixon); six grandchildren, Julie Raxter (Luke), Jay Hitt (Kailey), Drew Harden, Dawson Harden, John Shelton (Katie), and Caroline Smith (Logan); four great- grandchildren, Aaron, Audrey, Lillie, and Charlie; and his beloved cat of 17 years, Susie.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewey Shelton and John Shelton; two sisters, Lavenia Haile and Earleen Kastner; and a granddaughter, Jessica Hitt.
