James “Jim” Heidebrecht, passed away June 17, 2023, at the age of 85.
Jim was born on July 21, 1937 in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Walter and Hilda Heidebrecht. His parents raised him in a Christian home, giving him a strong work ethic and a sense of charity to the community.
After graduating high school in Altus, Oklahoma, Jim attended Oklahoma State University, earning a degree in accounting in 1959. Following time spent in the Navy Reserves, Jim returned to OSU to earn an MBA in 1963. Jim then joined Humble Oil (later named Exxon and now ExxonMobil) in Houston, Texas.
While living in Houston, Jim married Susan Anderson in 1964. As part of Exxon, Jim held such positions as Administrative Manager of the Baton Rouge refinery, Market Controller of Exxon USA, Controller of Esso Europe in London, England, and eventually Controller of Exxon Company International.
After retiring from Exxon in 1997, Jim and Susan moved to Flat Rock, North Carolina, and eventually to Greenville, South Carolina. During his retirement, Jim continued his sense of charity to the community. He used his accounting skills to serve as Treasurer of several non-profit organizations, was Finance Committee Chair at his church, and assisted the elderly with free tax return preparations through the AARP Tax Services program. Additionally, Jim served at a crisis center, was a mediator at the County Dispute Settlement Center, and was a Guardian ad Litem for children in the court system. Jim joined with several other OSU alumni who worked for Exxon to form ExxonMobil Controllers Alumni Group and established the ExxonMobil MBA Scholarship Fund. Jim enjoyed golf, fishing, family and friends, and supporting Oklahoma State University (Go Cowboys!)
Jim is survived by his wife, Susan; sons, Brian (Amy) and Bruce (Susan); and grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Reid, Sam Gentile, Morgen, and Ava.
Because our family and friends are spread far and wide, a celebration of life will happen at a later date in St. Joseph, Missouri.
