James “Jim” Lanny Owensby, beloved husband of Joyce Owensby, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late Lewis and Bernice Owensby.
Mr. Owensby proudly served in the U.S. National Guard and then went on to work as a machinist at GE, where he was known as a hardworking and dedicated employee before retiring.
Jim shared 60 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Joyce. An adventurous couple, they enjoyed RV camping trips across the country, creating cherished memories and a bond that would last a lifetime.
Jim was a proud Christian and an active member of Providence Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the church’s choir. His dedication to his faith extended beyond the church walls, touching the lives of those around him.
In his free time, Jim was an avid animal lover and treasured his beloved fur babies, who preceded him in death. Their companionship brought him immeasurable joy and comfort throughout the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Anthony “Tony” Owensby (April); sister, Linda Owensby Fowler (Rodger); brother, Gary Owensby (Bobbie); sister-in-law, Rachel Owensby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joel Wayne Owensby and Dennis Michael Owensby.
A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on January 13, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Following the service, the family will be available to receive condolences and visit with friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jim’s honor to Providence Baptist Church, 8515 White Horse Rd., Greenville, SC 29617, to continue supporting the causes close to his heart.
