James ““Rabbit” “Fuzz” “Jimmy” “Jimpa”” Richard Waldrop

James Richard Waldrop, also known as “Rabbit”, “Fuzz”, “Jimmy”, and “Jimpa”, 74, husband of the late Patricia Burdine Waldrop, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Arthur and Sarah Waldrop.

“Rabbit” was a graduate of Parker High School where he received his “PHD” just as everyone else did. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Sgt. Waldrop was a crew chief on an interceptor fighter jet during the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he enjoyed flying just for fun for a number of years.

“Fuzz” retired after a thirty year career as a site coordinator for Duke Power. After retirement, he worked on an as needed basis with Synergetics Design aka Pike Electric Corporation during natural disasters. He was also a past President of the Berea Lions Club.

“Jimmy” was always on the go, he enjoyed working on various projects such as automobiles, tractors, basically anything he could put his hands on. He always had something lined up and his sons were considered “expert light holders” as they observed their father working.

“Jimpa” enjoyed playing golf, and spending time with his family on the lake. His greatest love and joy came from being with them and the love he could share. He was the center of his family, and to him, they were his everything.

“Jimpa” is survived by sons, Rick Waldrop (Mekel) and Jason Waldrop; grandchildren, Addie and Jett Waldrop; sisters, Joan Wade (Jerry); sister in law, Betty Waldrop; and his favorite pets, Chloe, the real cat and Hambone, the invisible dog.

In addition to his loving wife, and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Wilton and Wallace Waldrop; and sister in law, Francis Waldrop.

A public visitation will be held Thursday, May 20, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. A funeral service will be held Friday, May 21, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be held in Mountain View Memorial Park, Travelers Rest.
