James T. “Jimmy” Hargrove, 85, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late James Arthur and Wilcie Stroud Hargrove.
Shortly after graduating from Parker High School, Jimmy enlisted in the US Navy and honorably served for four years during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards he began working in the auto parts industry at the former Scurry and Nixon Auto Parts Store in Greenville. He was successful in his sales career and also worked for Anderson Auto Parts before retiring from Napa in Mauldin. Over the years he developed countless relationships with car dealerships, mechanics, and loyal customers throughout the Upstate.
Jimmy enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, and his annual trip to the Smoky Mountains to Pigeon Forge with his brother Donald. He was a kind hearted man who worked hard and always had a smile.
Jimmy leaves his son, James R. “Rick” Hargrove of Williamston and a brother, Donald Hargrove of Piedmont; four grandchildren, Robbie Stein, Jesse Hargrove, Ricky Hargrove, Kaleigh Hargrove; a nephew, Joseph Randall Hargrove; and three adored great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Grace-Lynn, and Jerry.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Masson; his former spouse and the mother of his children, Betty Jean (King) Hargrove; and an infant sister, June Hargrove.
Public Viewing will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Masks are required in all Thomas McAfee Funeral Home locations and attendees are strongly encouraged to follow CDC guidelines on social distancing.
