James “Jim” Wesley Murphree, 84, loving husband of Lynda Murphree, died Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late James and Grace Bishop Murphree. Jim married the love of his life, Lynda, in 1958 and they celebrated 64 years of marriage. They resided in Greenville and raised three children together.
Jim was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 30 years, where he served as a deacon. He also hosted a weekly devotional on the church’s radio station. He was dedicated to his faith and ministered at a local nursing home for over 10 years.
Jim never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He was an athlete and a talented high school football player. He worked as a mechanic for most of his life and his love of cars brought him to building and racing his own cars. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and was well known for his prized tomatoes. He was a kind man to all he met through his life’s journey.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lynda Murphree; son, Wes (Christie) Murphree; daughters, Donna (Kevin) Shuman and Karen Murphree; grandson, Kaleb (Kimberly) Shuman; granddaughter, Kaci Shuman; great-granddaughters, Kensleigh Northcutt and Hollyn Shuman; great-grandsons, Jack Northcutt and Hank Shuman, and his beloved companion, his dog, Scout.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the service, at 1:00 p.m.
