On September 17, 2023, Jean Carrington Little died peacefully at Terra Bella Summit (formerly Pendleton Manor) in Greenville. She was 92. She is survived by her children, Jean Gordon Little (Patt Denning) of Oakland California, William Clark Little, III (Amy) of Salem, South Carolina, and Sarah Little Few of Mt. Pleasant South Carolina and by her adored grandchildren William Clark Little, IV, Robert Hale Little, Tate Garvin Few, and Jack Carrington Few.
Born in New York City to Gladys Watkins Carrington and Alfred Randolph Carrington, Jr., Jean grew up happily with her mother and two older brothers in Chatham, Virginia. She attended high school at Chatham Hall and graduated from Hollins University, after which she worked for two years as a social worker before marrying William Clark Little, Jr. In 1961 they moved to Greenville. She worked for 27 years as a real estate agent with the Robinson Company. A member of Christ Church Episcopal, she was a faithful volunteer for more than 50 years.
Jean loved Greenville. She was very involved in her neighborhood, its garden club, her church, her work, and with her many good friends. She was liked and respected by all who knew her for her deep sense of honor, her caring, her dependability, her generosity, and her hard work. She was a devoted grandmother who was involved in caring for her grandchildren as they grew up, offering the unconditional love and support that is so often the purview of grandmothers.
The family would like to offer our gratitude to the staff of Terra Bella Summit for their ability to understand who Jean was and to care for her in a way that allowed her to have some of the joy and amusement that was a part of how she lived her life.
A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr, Greenville, SC 29609, on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown is assisting the family.
