Dear Alice and Rachel My heart ached for you girls on the loss of your mother! I have such good memories of the Smith Family reunions. Your Grandmother, Carolyn and your sweet mom, always the southern lady . It took me awhile to remember which was the daughter and which was the daughter in law. You were all so close and a joy to one another. Hold on to all those memories and may they be comforting always. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am sad to hear of Jean's passing but I know she leaves her family with a wealth of loving memories. I worked with Jean in the library at Furman for many years. She was such an institution here. We had many celebrations and social times to which she would bring her wonderful dishes. She made the best coconut layer cake I have ever eaten! A true Southern lady.
