With humble acceptance of God’s sovereignty, the family of Jo Ann Brown Harris announces her homegoing on December 5, 2023 following a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Joe A. and Myrtle Brock Brown and the loving, faithful wife of Jimmie Lee Harris.
Born in Mountain Home, North Carolina, Jo Ann was a lifelong resident of Greenville, South Carolina, and a graduate of Greenville High School. She worked as a bookkeeper at J.E. Sirrine Federal Credit Union and Shannon Forest Christian School. She was a devoted charter member of both Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church and Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church, most recently attending Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church. She loved her Clemson Tigers almost as much as she loved her family.
Jo Ann and Jimmie met while he was stationed at Donaldson Air Force Base. After promising she would go anywhere in the world with him as long as she could still see Paris Mountain, they were married on New Year’s Eve, 1954. Jimmie and Jo Ann were married for 69 years, rarely leaving each other’s side.
Jo Ann loved her family fiercely. She is survived by a daughter, Amy Harris Bell; a son, Joe Harris and his wife, Kathryn; six grandchildren, Scott Bell and Tina Lin, Katherine Wallace McBride, Annalee Bell Graves and her husband Adam, Emma Harris, Hannah Harris and Gabi Harris; a brother, Johnny Mack Brown and his wife, Faye Brown; nieces Alison Brown Rawl and her husband Bubba, Libby Brown Madden and her husband Matt; as well as many dearly loved cousins and great nieces and nephews. Once her first grandchild was born, she became “JoMama” to family and friends alike.
A memorial service will be held December 10, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church, 2519 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, South Carolina. Visitation will be held following the service. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jo Ann’s honor to the Missions Committee – Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church, 2519 Woodruff Road, Simpsonville, South Carolina 29681.
