Louis LeBlanc left a message on January 20, 2022:
Dear Wynell, Sheila, Levi. Eliza, and your extended family, I literally can't put into words how sad I feel about Clay's passing. When I got the news from Tommy, I was devastated, and couldn't do or think of anything else for an hour. Clay was as fine a man as I have ever known, and to see him grow in his profession was uplifting. He had a sharp and creative mind and a fantastic memory for people and their names, and could remember little things they told him about their lives, which shows how he was so much a "people person." Starting from no experience, he learned through study, experience, and raw effort how to become as able an engineer as I, if not better. He always made me feel warmly welcome when I would drop in unexpectedly at LWI, and we would catch up on our families. I will miss him as I would a brother or son. I can't imagine how much you will miss him.

Wynell, Sheila and family, I was shocked to hear of Clay's passing! So very sorry and sad. People who knew Clay well all have wonderful memories of him, and that is a testament to how he lived his life as the son, husband, father and brother that he was! Ms. Wynell you are one of the most wonderful and kind people I have ever known and I know how much you love both of your sons and I'm hurting for you as well! So sorry I could not make the funeral today as I am sick and didn't want to expose anyone. I love you all, and will be praying for you!

I've known Clay for just a few months from a project he was currently helping design for us. His presence and expertise during our design meetings was invaluable. More importantly, his friendly approach and helpful good spirit was present at all times, evidence of the person he was outside of work as well. While just a recent person to come into the life of Clay, I know a good man as he will be missed by all who knew him. My thoughts and prayers to all the family and friends in his life.

Sheila, Please know the entire Southside Christian School community is supporting you and your precious family in prayer right now. I remember something you said about Clay years ago. You said, "Clay is the most godly, Christ-like man you have ever known". That encouraged me and challenged me then and today. My hope is that my wife would be able to say that about me. Clay's life and walk with Jesus was an inspiration to me personally. In Christ, Sam Barfell
