John “Jack” Murray Deming, 76, of Greenville, South Carolina, formerly of Valley Falls, New York, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 21, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son and first child of the late Donald Dustin and Mary Elise (Meunier) Deming.
Jack graduated from Hoosic Valley Central School in Schaghticoke, NY in 1963 and Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY in 1965. He married his high school sweetheart Sally Matheson.
Jack honorably served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967 aboard the USS St. Paul. Following his military service, Jack returned home to Valley Falls, NY and began his 35-year career with the Norton Company (now Saint-Gobain).
He was a very active member of the Chester James Carknard VFW Post in Valley Falls and served as a Trustee on the Valley Falls Village Board. Jack’s favorite pastimes were golfing and spending time with his beloved family and many friends.
Jack lived in Greenville, SC for much of his childhood and in 2009 he returned with Sally to Greenville for their retirement.
He is survived by wife of 57 years, Sally J. Deming of Greenville, SC; two daughters, Mary Jo (Jerry) Moore of Saratoga Springs, NY and Jo Anne (Christopher) Brackley of Greenville, SC; a son, Robert John (Stacy) Deming of Mechanicville, NY; seven grandchildren, Rachel E. Moore, Marisa D. Moore, John “Jack” L. Brackley, Kyle C. Brackley, Stevie E. Deming, Kayla T. Corazzini, and Anthony J. Corazzini . He also leaves two brothers, Eric L. (Jan) Deming of Christmas, FL and Donald W. Deming of Watervliet, NY; three sisters, Dustine M. (Jerry) Acosta of Greenville, SC, Elise A. (Robert) Melesky of Hoosick Falls, NY, Esther C. Deming (Sergio Racigh) of Vineyard Haven, MA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
His memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Disciples United Methodist Church, 185 Riley Smith Dr., Greenville, SC 29615. All attendees are strongly encouraged to wear masks and follow CDC guidelines on social distancing. A graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
