John Walker Burnett, 48, husband of Wendy Wyatt Burnett of Travelers Rest, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023, after fighting a strong battle against melanoma.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of John Walker Burnett, Sr. and Kathryn Gault Burnett. He graduated from JL Mann High School in 1994 and went on to graduate from Anderson College. He is known in the business community as Co-Owner of Aircraft Management Group in Greenville and as State Director and owner of Smart Choice Insurance for Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed serving as a Children’s Sunday School teacher.
John was a loving husband to Wendy, the love of his life, for 24 years. He cherished his role as father of his four children, John (III), Ella Grace, Emme, and Eliza. He played an active role in his childrens’ schools and activities. There is nothing he loved more than to cheer them on and keep everyone laughing. John enjoyed regular trips to Litchfield Beach and planning special Disney vacations with his family. He was an avid sports fan, collector of sports memorabilia, and long-time fan of both the Atlanta Braves and Falcons. He also loved time on the golf course and enjoyed coaching golf at Mitchell Road Christian Academy. He loved big and was generous with both his time and resources impacting so many people in his life.
In addition to his wife, children, and parents, John is survived by sister Kimberly Burnett Banish; parents-in-law Bill and Judy Wyatt; brother-in-law Chris Wyatt, and his wife, Robin, and their children, Caylah, Noah, and Lily Wyatt; and honorary family members: Nazarene Howard, Lee Cline, and Caroline Mullen with her daughters, Victoria, Margaret, and Elizabeth.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at 4:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, in the Worship and Arts Center.
