It's said that you can take the "measure of a man" by how he deals with adversity. For over two years John Walker Burnett Jr. fought the ravages of melanoma with a courage I've never seen before. He would send me photos taken just before brain surgery and he would have a smile on his face. He knew the risks. But he smiled and gave a thumbs up. I asked him how he managed to keep fighting and he said simply: he was doing it for his family. John dearly loved his family. He was so proud of them. I have 100's of photos that he would send, including their last trip to the beach. I became friends with John over 15 years ago. We met at a Falcons game and saw each other every week when he started Smart Choice in Atlanta. John was ALWAYS positive. He had that great sense of humor that drew people to him. To John III, Ella Grace, Emme and Eliza, your father was a good and kind man who dearly loved you. And he fought very hard to stay in your lives as long as was possible. The best thing you can say about a person is that you will miss them. I will miss John. There is an empty space where he once stood. Roy Tucker

I only knew John as the Cline’s neighbor and Lee’s best friend. I grieve for the family as he was truly an amazing friend, son, husband, father, and Christian…and other roles and relationships. He is surely experiencing the joys of being in Heaven with our Lord and Saviour. I wish I could be at the service tomorrow. Praying for you all to find peace, comfort and strength. I would ask that you listen to Robin Mark’s song, When It’s All Been Said and Done. It is like a testimony for John’s life. Love and prayers to you,

John was like a big brother to me for so many years. Such a wonderful person, that I always enjoyed being around, and never a dull moment. Every time I drive by a golf course, I think of him, and then honk the horn when I see a golfer start to swing. I remember he used to get a giggle out of that. The memories I have of John, will live with me always. I'm so sorry for your loss.
